Why your support matters

The scale of the mental health challenges affecting children is unprecedented. Inequality and insufficient provision of therapeutic support for the social and emotional mental health of children in schools is having a catastrophic and far-reaching impact.

Unprecedented scale

More than 500 children a day in England are referred to mental health services for anxiety, while the number of children referred to emergency mental healthcare in England has risen by 10% in a year.

(Centre for Mental Health, 2025)

Educational Exclusion

Students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs are three times more likely to be excluded from school, severely limiting their academic and life prospects.

(DfE, 2021)

Socioeconomic inequality

Children from the least well-off 20% of households are four times more likely to experience “serious mental health difficulties by age 11 years of age” compared to those from the wealthiest 20%.

(Centre for Mental Health, 2024)

Insufficient Provision

Schools are increasingly “stepping up to fill the gaps”, with Mental Health Support Teams covering only 52% of pupils in 2025 and projected to reach just 60% by 2026.

Our flexible funding model combines support from Trusts & Foundations, Philanthropy, and Corporate partners, along with contributions from schools.

Our schools cover as much of the cost as they can – but budgets are stretched and it is the generosity of our supporters that ensures every child who needs our help and the schools, families and communities who support them – especially those facing the greatest challenges – can receive the support they need.
