Unlocking Potential

Who we are

Unlocking Potential is the charity that supports schools and communities to ensure no child or family struggles alone with their social, emotional and mental health needs.

We provide flexible, over-time, multi-disciplinary therapeutic support that meets children and families where they are, and enables them to feel safe, understood and the best version of themselves.

Our Services

The scale of the social and mental health challenges affecting children and families in the UK is greater than ever before and our services for schools, and with families, is an impactful response to unprecedented demand and unmet need for therapeutic support:

Schools Programme

Our Schools Programme enables us to deliver multidisciplinary therapeutic and wrap-around support to children and families with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), while providing advice to the whole school community.

Family and Parenting Programmes

Our Parenting Programme and Family Support Programme enables parents and families to develop the skills and understanding they need to support their children and thrive.

Partnerships

We work closely with organisational partners, businesses and others who share our ambitions to drive change together.

Supporting Trainees

We are committed to supporting the practitioners of the future, and partner with leading universities training organisations to provide supportive training and placements to enable trainee therapists to succeed.

Addressing the challenge is complex, and there are many organisations with the same aims, so we collaborate with those who share our ambitions to drive the much-needed change in the mental health landscape. As a charity, we rely on and are grateful for the support of individuals and organisations who share our vision and belief that we can make a difference to children, families and schools.

Our Approach

We have defined our method to clarify how our approach is different from others;

the UP Way is built out of our beliefs and is driven by three principles:

Individual

We start with the needs of the individual and design our offer to meet them.

Tailored

We provide the support that each child, family or school needs, not standard solutions or programmes.

Multidisciplinary

We offer the ‘right’ combination of different therapeutic solutions for each situation.

Our Guiding Principles

Trusted relationships

The nurturing, trusted relationships we build with children, families, and schools over time are at the heart of our work – no quick fixes, just tailored, human-centred support.

Active collaboration

We are part of a wider ecosystem and actively collaborate with partners who share our vision – because we know we are stronger together.

Flexible over-time

Our range of therapeutic disciplines and interventions are delivered flexibly, over-time, creating real impact on mental health, wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

Innovation

We are committed to being responsive, reflective and forward-thinking – always evolving to meet the changing needs of society and our partners with new approaches, ideas and solutions.

Why your support matters

Every child deserves the space to feel safe, understood and confident in who they are, yet too many are facing emotional and mental health challenges alone and without timely help. Schools are under immense pressure; services are overstretched and the gap between need and support is ever widening. Your support will help us close that gap.

With you alongside us, we can:

  • Give more children a safe space to understand and manage their emotions.
  • Equip parents and carers with the skills and confidence to support their families.
  • Be there for more families at crisis points in their lives.
  • Partner with more schools so that teachers feel supported, not alone, in meeting children’s needs.
  • Train the next generation of practitioners to build more resilient social systems.
